Erin + Jake | Iceland Elopement

Do you believe in the power of manifestation? I’m a little skeptical but while talking with some friends I decided to say out loud that I would like an Iceland elopement. Like many elopement photographers Iceland is a dream location to shoot for obvious reasons. Three days after I declared my desire to the universe Erin and Jake reached out. We met up in Boulder for a foggy engagement session with their pup Hank and I couldn’t want to meet them in Iceland for their big day.

Taylor and I had both been to Iceland before. We knew that it takes a day or so to adjust to the time change and everything is very spread out. We wanted to make sure we had enough time before and after Erin and Jake’s elopement to prepare and also enjoy being in Iceland. We rented an awesome little camper van and make our way slowly to Vik. Vik is famously known for its black sand beaches and is where we were starting our adventure. Even the Hotel Kria where they were staying was awesome!

Iceland in general is usually pretty cloudy and raining but the sun was out for the first stop!

The second stop was Skogafoss - a well known waterfall. It is about a 30 minute drive from Vik. You can actually hike to the top of the waterfall - which we didn’t have time for but Erin and Jake did run around like two kids in love.

After we got back from playing in the Skogafoss waterfall we had allotted time for Erin and Jake to freshen up and enjoy a dinner at their hotel. Taylor and I were expecting to cook up some ramen in the van but Erin and Jake insisted we join them and we couln’’t resist. After enjoying a delicious meal and toasting with champagne we made our way to Fjaðrárgljúfur canyon for sunset and vows. The drive was almost an hour away but thankfully the sun sets pretty late this time of year in Iceland (around 9:30!). We pulled up and we were the only ones there. The canyon is majestic and I can’t think of a more beautiful spot to exchange vows.

It was a dream come true and an honor to be the one to capture Erin and Jake’s elopement and was definitely one of the top moments of my year. Thank you for choosing and trusting me as your photographer.
