Boho Western Magic: A Maternity Session with Alison

Boho Western Magic: A Maternity Session with Alison in Westminster

There’s something about a maternity session that’s just... different. Maybe it’s the combination of excitement, nerves, and "holy crap, a whole human is about to exist." Whatever it is, Alison’s maternity session in Westminster had it all. But we didn’t stop there. We added two of my sister’s majestic horses, big boho western energy, and the legendary Flatirons in the background. As if Alison could get any cooler…she does.

The Setting: An Empty Field With A Mountain View

Late morning sun? While most people would avoid shooting in it, we were excited for the challenge and the vibe that it brings. There were about six of us shooting - Autumn, a photographer from Florida, needed some help putting the shoot and vision together and since she didn’t live here reached out to me for some help. I was so glad she wanted to do the full-sun look. The sun’s "main character energy" worked in our favor, giving everything that sharp, golden glow that makes you feel like you’re in a Wild West dream sequence.

The Star of the Shoot: Alison

To say Alison "looked like a model" would be a disservice. She didn’t just look like a model — she looked like the blueprint for every boho western Pinterest board ever made. Flowy fabrics, earthy tones, and "I’m effortlessly cool" energy just oozed from her. If there’s a maternity modeling agency out there, they’d be calling her immediately.

Alison’s poses? Nailed them. Her looks? Impeccable. Did she do that thing where she’s gazing off into the distance, looking like she’s pondering the mysteries of the universe (or maybe just thinking about lunch)? Absolutely. If this woman was feeling uncomfortable, she sure didn’t show it. Every pose, every glance, every "I’m just casually stunning" moment was chef’s kiss.

The Guest Stars: Jackie’s Horses

You’d think adding horses to a shoot would be risky, but Jackie’s horses were absolute pros. These two beauties showed up with perfect posture and just the right amount of horsey mischief. Side note we were also at an off-leash dog park so we got a lot of stopper-byers curious about the horses! One moment that’s permanently etched in my brain? Alison standing between the two horses, hands on their manes like she’s auditioning for the lead role in a Western epic. It was pure cinema. The horses, to their credit, kept it cool, occasionally throwing in a playful nuzzle and mostly concerned with the grass and getting some snacks in.

Reflections on the Session

Photographing a friend is always special, but this one hit different. Alison’s journey to motherhood, set in my hometown with the steadfast presence of the Flatirons, and my sister’s two charming horses? It really was a dream shoot. So excited for you to be a mom Al. Thanks for trusting us all with this shoot.
